Job Description
As a title examiner, you are responsible for examining title reports to determine property ownership, lien priority, outstanding taxes, and other delinquent amounts and defects in the title, as well as updating firm and client systems with title summaries and communicating with clients, courts, insurance companies and outside law firms.
Responsibilities:
- Examine title evidence for the property.
- Make determinations as to whether or not the company should ensure property by reviewing items.
- Search and examine public records to identify any encumbrances, tax liens, or other defects that could affect the clear transfer of title.
- Produce a commitment reflecting the results of the examination.
- Answer questions from closers, attorneys, real estate agents, and others on title issues reflected in the title commitments.
- May monitor the progress of departmental staff to ensure that work is being produced promptly.
- Assist in training new staff members and establishing internal procedures to increase efficiency and quality.
- Attend continuing legal education and real estate courses to remain current on the latest title issues.
Requirements and skills:
- 2 years of title processing.
- Ability to handle a large volume of files and meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Analytical thinking.
- Research skills.
- Excellent computer, organizational, and time management skills.
- High school diploma.
